Join a group of us from the parish at this workshop which will teach us how to invite people to come to church, how to welcome the when they arrive on our doorstep, and how to connect them so that they may stay. We will depart from the Rectory at 8:00am and return home around 5:00pm. Lunch will be served so we need to register. The church is covering all costs. Holy Week Worship at Christ Church
Palm Sunday April 14 There is only one service at 10:00am. We join singing “Hail thee Festival Day” welcoming Jesus into Jerusalem with the crowd. We parade around the church with our palms. Then we settle in for a dramatic reading of The Passion of Jesus the Christ with Timpani. This version of The Passion is prepared by a Jewish/Christian Group. We conclude with Holy Communion Rite ll. Maundy Thursday April 18th 6-8:00pm Maundy comes from a Latin word meaning commandment. On this day Jesus said to his friends “A new commandment I give you.—Love one another as I have loved you.” He shared bread and wine with his friends and said, “Whenever you gather again, do this in remembrance of me. On Maundy Thursday we hold a taste of a Seder Supper showing the connection to our communion, with foot washing and the giving of The New Commandment.”Love God and Love your Neighbor. 9:00pm You are invited to pray silently in the church while the altar is stripped. The Church will be open until Noon on Friday for prayer and meditation. Good Friday April 19th Noon and 7:00pm Originally called God’s Friday but later shortened to Good Friday as Good bye was originally “Go with God’s blessing” and was contracted to Good bye. Stations of the Cross The tradition of walking from scene to scene of Jesus' journey to the cross. At each station, we take turns reading the story portrayed in the beautiful pen and ink drawings. After each station we sing a song about Mary Weeping which dates from the 13th century. Our service concludes with Holy Communion from the reserved sacrament and we leave in silence. Easter Vigil April 20th 7:30 @ Incarnation Lutheran Church (Montauk Highway and Scuttle Hole Road) We will share this service with our Lutheran sister and brothers. This is the first service of Easter. We light the new fire. We hear our family stories from scripture by candle light. Please bring a bell from home to ring at the Alleluias as Easter breaks forth. We will celebrate Holy Eucharist. Several worship leaders will lead a short worship service to welcome Easter morning. Sing hymns, Scripture reading, and a message for Easter. Christ Church 8:00am A quiet Holy Eucharist Rite ll with sermon. Christ Church 10:00am Choir, organ, trumpet, flute, sermon and Holy Communion Rite ll. Welcome bags for visitors, Activity bags for children Followed by a delicious Coffee Hour and an Easter Egg hunt for the children. Remember to arrive early to find parking and bring a flower to flower the cross.
